Iringa baskets as they are popularly known are named after Iringa town,a town located in southern Tanzania.
The Hehe and also Bena people of Tanzania have wooven these baskets for centuries. It’s a skill that is passed on from generation to generation. Iringa baskets are wooven using milulu grass, a reed that grows abandantly in the southern part of Tanzania by the river banks. Milulu reeds are of great importance to the Hehe and Bena people and they were of great importance in the Hehe rebellion.
Iringa baskets are very long lasting,with good care,they can last for decades.
How to care for your basket:
Spot clean with water. Incase your basket has lost shape,you can deep it in water and remold it with your hands. Then put it dry.Let the basket to dry fully to avoid moulding. You can also wet it using a bide or wet them from a tap.
